TBI… Concussion… PTSD… Trauma… Sexual Trauma... Migraines… Depression…
Attention Deficit Disorder…Anxiety…
Do you or someone you love suffer from one or more of these conditions and struggle to find treatment that works? Are you concerned that the drugs you are taking may only be creating more issues to overcome? Are you running out of hope?
In a recent interview, “It’s Up to You: Breakthroughs in Brain Wellness”, Dr. Mary Lee Esty talks about how she is using neurofeedback to successfully treat these and other issues. Without drugs. Without repeatedly being asked to relive the trauma.
Mary Lee Esty, Ph.D., LCSW, a recognized clinician and researcher in applications of neurofeedback treatment, is the founder of the Brain Wellness and Biofeedback Center, located in Bethesda, Maryland. A sought-after speaker and the award-winning author of the comprehensive, yet highly readable, Conquering Concussion: Healing TBI Symptoms With Neurofeedback and Without Drugs, Dr. Esty sits down with Minda Wilson, a host of the popular Radioactive Broadcasting network, to explain how neurofeedback works and why she has been able to help more than 3,000 clients get their lives back.
Watch as Dr. Esty recounts how she got started in the field of neurofeedback and the research that she has done, not only with concussion and traumatic brain injury (TBI), but also with veterans still struggling with PTSD brought on by Vietnam era service, as well as those more recently back from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Let her explain to you how neurofeedback works and all of the different ways in which it can literally give lives back that have been lost because of how physical and emotional trauma affects the electrical activity in the brain. Because the process is totally noninvasive and passive, the patient merely sits quietly for no longer than four minutes with sensors placed on the head. They are not asked to relive the trauma, merely to close their eyes and relax.
Learn about the Army sergeant in the psych unit at Walter Reed, following four deployments in Afghanistan, who was unable to leave her quarters for anything short of an emergency. Referred to Dr. Esty after multiple treatment efforts were unsuccessful, she started showing improvement almost immediately. Today, she has her PhD and is working as a neuroscience researcher.
Or listen as she remembers another veteran, this time from Iraq, who was on the verge of suicide, because, even after three years of treatment from the VA, he had few memories of his past, including those of life with his wife and four children. You will want to listen to Dr. Esty as she talks about what happened, especially the conversation with his youngest son, after his 4th treatment with neurofeedback. What does it mean for someone to realize that he can be a dad and a husband again?
And Dr. Esty doesn’t just talk about the service members and veterans that she has been able to help. There is also the young woman who was brutally and sexually assaulted at her graduation party. She came to Dr. Esty’s office to humor her family, but she had no intention of even being alive for a follow-up appointment. You will want to hear how her story turned out.
Dr. Esty ends her interview (although you will probably suspect that there were many, many more stories to tell) by asking, “How could I not do this work?” Discover what fuels that passion…
